8) The oil filter adapter housing is machined perfectly to allow our Spek temperature probe to submerge itself in oil for an accurate read. Oil temperature readings will vary slightly from this high-pressure area versus the bottom of the oil pan but tapping in here saves us from having to weld a bung onto the oil pan and will still provide us with consistent readings, albeit slightly different than if we were to measure elsewhere.
