What's known as the premier automotive lifestyle event, the Slammed Society, made its way to Long Beach during last week's 2013 Formula D season opener. The overcast weather made for a natural softbox that lit the cars just right. The cars, the girls, the drifting all made for a pretty epic day.

It's an exciting time of the year as the Formula Drift series commences in a couple days on the streets of Long Beach, California. Just like last year we held a car meet and tech day at our Irvine office in collaboration with our sister magazine publications Super Street and Import Tuner. Our food truck friends DogZilla, Dos Chinos, Sexy Burger and Frozen Ice provided grub for hungry tuners. Among the hundreds of cars that rolled through, these were our top favorite Hondas.

Corona, California's Eibach facility played host to the fourth annual Chronicles meet and anniversary celebration. The brainchild of Honda Tuning contributor Joey Lee, the Chronicles blog has taken on a life of its own over the past four years. Intense, detailed event coverage, multiple exclusive build series, and plenty of comedic moments have forced long-term fans and newcomers alike to add stickydiljoe.com to their favorites list for their daily dose of web surfing. While the site dabbles in non-Honda goods here and there, its foundation is certainly cemented in all things Honda-from show and street, to race coverage in both the U.S. and overseas. Using his international digital reach, Lee has been responsible for uncovering gems from around the world like the K Day Meet, as well as Japan's Tactical Art crew and their stable of track cars.

Ask any competitive Honda drag racing aficionado what the best track in the U.S. is and you'll undoubtedly get more than a few votes for E-Town. Furthermore, if you're an avid Honda Tuning Magazine reader, you may remember Jeremy Lookofsky talking about beating his current record (at that time) and stating, "We're so close, but yet so far away. Stay tuned, though, my thoughts are that it will happen at E-Town, Fall Nationals--the perfect way to end a race season." Well, he called it. Running consistent low 9s naturally aspirated for quite some time, Lookofsky's Drag Cartel, tube-frame chassis Civic finally got over the humpand in spectacular fashion. Crushing his previous record of 9.01 @ 148 with an incredible 8.96 @ 151, Lookofsky once again blazed a new trail in modern-day Honda performance. But that wasn't the only record to fall during the weekend. Prayoonto Racing's very own Loan Prayoonto decided to smash the All Motor street record with a 9.93 @ 138. She then made quick work of backing it up with a 9.96 @ 137!

Gaining momentum, Spocom hit the Anaheim Convention Center with its 6th annual car show. With a nasty heat wave blanketing SoCal, the well-organized indoor event was a welcome addition to the high number of car shows during the summer months. Though not as Honda-heavy as many of the others events this year, Spocom’s strength lies in its ability to combine all types of imports from full-blown show cars to dedicated track cars from various manufacturers. Oh, and if your thing is models, well, Spocom was the place to be with a large section dedicated to aspiring and established import models. Spocom settled in Hawaii, Anaheim, and as you’re reading this, Taiwan, so it’s not slowing down anytime soon.

King describes its event as part meet, part dyno-battle, part show, part barbecue, and part awesome. Everything you could possibly want in a summer afternoon with fellow Honda enthusiasts could be found at King’s yearly shindig. And that includes detailed dyno analysis for spectators and competitors to view, detail demonstration, live music, food, a raffle, promos, and assorted free goodies, as well as a special guest in the form of Mugen’s CR-Z RR.

And we’re not just referring to the 110-plus-degree temperatures that had everyone in attendance soaking in sweat. A massive lineup of 80 heavy-hitting Honda builds both past and present added a special touch to the yearly show that’s long been on the verge of extinction. The brainchild of The Chronicles’ creator Joey Lee, the Generations lineup brought out a few classics, both well known as well as obscure to those who haven’t been involved in this community for a number of years. With plenty of HT alumni, the assemblage, dubbed Generations, displayed both race and show cars from the present as well as those about to make their mark, undoubtedly destined for greatness. I think we say this every year, but will this be the final Nisei Showoff event? We’re going to go out on a limb and say no, but only time will tell.

Buttonwillow Raceway played host to the latest Raceline USA open track day and HTMR Challenge. Hondas of all types made the trek to Kern County, California, for a track day that included beginners and high-level drivers as well as the end-of-the-day four-lap Type R battle. After four events, the HTMR Challenge has three regulars clawing for the top spot with only a handful of points separating the group. Only one event is left to determine who will clench the title.

When it comes to throwing a show, meet, or track event, the first one is always the toughest. Most doubt that you’ll ever actually pull it off, and to be quite frank, most don’t succeed. Perhaps the Honda Fest organizers ignored all of that because not only was their first event a smashing success, attendees were so ecstatic that they wasted no time in asking when the next one is set to come about. Not wasting any time, July 7, 2013, is already reserved for the 2nd annual event, and anticipation is already building. A safe, user-friendly location, plenty of word-of-mouth advertising, and a healthy assortment of well-built Hondas—yup, these guys are going to be around for a bit.

With summer heating up and show season swinging back into full stride, thousands found themselves flocking to Charlotte, North Carolina, for the much anticipated, Import Alliance Summer Meet. Although IA holds multiple meets throughout the show season, the summer gathering is by far the largest, and has been known to draw in varying enthusiasts from all over the eastern half of the country. This show was no exception.

Ten years in the automotive enthusiast circle is a long time no matter how you look at it. That sentiment rings especially true in regard to events. Sure, there are some show and race series that have been around for a decade, but they’re not pulling anywhere near the numbers that Honda Day is.

Typically, open house events are mild at best, with a few stand-out cars sprinkled throughout a parking lot full of locals, a few vendors on hand, and maybe some free sodas for the light foot-traffic throughout the day. The Blox Racing Open House is pretty much the exact opposite of all that. Row upon row of some of the nicest Honda builds around were in attendance along with a number of local merchants, food trucks, models, and plenty of extracurricular activities to keep the crowd entertained. And speaking of crowds, the parking lot remained packed throughout the day, as this year’s event eclipsed 2011’s get-together, and every attendee vowed to return for next years shindig—don’t be left out! Wek’Fest LA, or more specifically, Long Beach, California, didn’t seem to be an overwhelming success in 2011 when compared to the monumental numbers that Wek’Fest SF consistently pulls. Nevertheless, the Wek’Fest team, after throwing events in various parts of the country over the last year, journeyed back to the Queen Mary Events Park in Long Beach for a rematch with SoCal show-goers. Whether it was the word of mouth and social media advertising or the mere increase in display vehicles, this year’s SoCal event was an undeniable success. High-end show cars, a few race vehicles, well-recognized vendors, and plenty of foot traffic culminated in an event that’s almost guaranteed to be a yearly classic in SoCal. Action heated up once again as the third installment of the Honda Tuning Magazine R Challenge (HTMR) seemed to be the perfect ending to a fun-filled track event thrown by Raceline USA. On Saturday, June 23, 2012, the Streets of Willow played host to a Honda-heavy lineup that included seven hungry Rs looking to win the points race. Elton Lo’s experience at SOW proved to be too much as he pulled away from the competition in the Street Lights Civic Type R sedan. With just a few points separating them, Elton and Larry Luster are clawing for the top spot.

For the past seven years, the Eibach facility in Corona, California, has hosted the ever-growing Eibach Honda Meet. The large parking lot, in the beginning, was more than enough to accommodate attendees. However, with massive growth over the years came overcrowding, traffic jams, and a glare from local authorities.

Intense race action for the 16th year in a row as competitors from all over the country, including the West Coast and Puerto Rico, battled for supremacy at the iconic Englishtown Raceway. While the forced-induction crowd always puts on a great show, it was the naturally aspirated Hondas that had everyone talking.
