The Integra GS-R
The United States got its first glimpse of the GS-R nameplate in 1992 with the DB2 model. Sporting a 1.7-liter B17A engine, not unlike the venerable B16A, it put VTEC technology within the grasp of the average American consumer who couldn't afford the much pricier Acura NSX. Though the first-generation GS-R was produced in very low numbers, it was the second-generation model introduced in 1994 that became the smash hit. This was partly due to the all-new B18C engine that trumped the B17 in displacement, torque, and horsepower categories. Though the GS-R model ended with Acura no longer producing the Integra, its popularity continues on the used car market, and the engine is still considered one of the all-time best performers by enthusiasts.
