Similar to auto racing's Sports Car Club of America, radio controlled cars have their own sanctioning body. Remotely Operated Auto Racers governs the rules and regulations for formal RC events and races throughout the U.S. and Canada. The organization has specific rules for both RC cars and trucks. For example, ROAR has to approve all nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride batteries used in RC cars during sanctioned events. The batteries must be sent to Texas for approval by the ROAR executive committee. Only existing ROAR members can submit batteries for testing. Once the battery's been approved it's added to a list. The battery is then given an expiration date. Members must resubmit their batteries and other required information yet again just to keep them on ROAR's list of acceptable competition batteries. Visit www.roarracing.com for more information regarding RC cars and events. There's more info there than you might think.
