While many refer to their U.S.-spec '88-'91 Civics as EF chassis, they aren't. Check your VIN plate because the EF chassis code is exclusive to Japan. Unless you've had a true righthand drive sled shipped over in a container, chances are you've either got an EC, ED, or EE chassis. The coding becomes complicated when you account for the number scheme preceded by the chassis code lettering but here's an oversimplified USDM cheat sheet:
EC: most hatchbacks, some wagons and sedans
ED: Most crxs and sedans, some hatchbacks
EE: Most wagons
