"I absolutely love the J's Racing front lip," B.J. says. "It has got to be my favorite aftermarket front lip for the USDM front bumpers." A&J Racing, in neighboring Canada, was contacted and currency was exchanged before the lip finally made its way onto the Fit. A Mugen rear wing also finds a home on the car as well as other assorted goodies purchased from Pann Auto, including JDM taillights, window visors and a Seibon carbon-fiber OEM-style hood. The couple then handed each piece over to their longtime friend Warren at Blur Motorworks for paint-matching and installation duties.
Marie and B.J. understand that no build can be called complete without interior work. At first glance, the first thing onlookers notice is the red interior popping against the Storm Silver Metallic outside. Upon further inspection, one would see that the rear seats have been reupholstered to match the red Bride Ergo buckets up front. "We love it," B.J. says. "A couple other Fit owners say it's a little much but you can't please everyone. Like the saying goes, 'those who can, will do.'"
Indeed, the cabin houses more exquisite pieces than the outside. It's all there-Mugen doorsills, Mugen pedals, even a Mugen rearview mirror cover. Attached to the Works Bell hub and quick release is the coup de grce of steering wheels-a Mugen FG360 piece. The quick release is definitely a good call in this case; call it an investment that steers. Making sure that the FG360 gets pointed in the right direction is a Panasonic Strada 7-inch touchscreen navigation unit. Hip-hop blares throughout the cabin with help from Audiobahn amplifiers and 12-inch woofers.
Powering this 1.5-liter gas saver is an HKS turbo kit that, at the time of installation, had yet to be distributed on U.S. shores. This is where working for an official HKS distributor like Pann paid off. "I made a call to one of their reps in Japan and they sent me their kit. It actually took a while to get and I was getting impatient but that was probably due to the modifications that had to be made to fit USDM Fits," B.J. says.
The previously unreleased turbo kit includes a T25 turbine, internal wastegate, Super Sequential blow-off valve, Type S intercooler and all necessary piping. The kit is pre-tuned to 4-5 psi with an F-Con IS unit, also included with the kit. The HKS Hi-Power cat-back system expels exhaust gases and gives other drivers hints of the HKS snail underhood. The rest of the engine compartment is a moving HKS catalog with the company's Twin Power DLI to improve ignition spark and oil and radiator caps for that additional bling. Yet another unreleased product that finds its way onto this Fit is a custom carbon-fiber engine cover developed by B.J. himself. But don't call this engine cover a "B.J. Special" because apparently that's been done, again and again.
