Robbie Perez' 2000 S2000
Propulsion
Perez' AP1 gets by with the smaller displacement but higher revving of the two available S2000 mills. Internally, the F20C1 remains undisturbed save for a Cometic 3mm head gasket. The thicker-than-stock gasket lowers the compression ratio all but welcoming the addition of the Rev Hard turbo kit. The kit revolves around a Rev Hard GT30 ball bearing turbocharger and is hitched to the exhaust side of the head with a cast iron manifold, also from Rev Hard. Incoming air is simmered down with a 27-inch wide Rev Hard front-mount intercooler and ties into the turbo and engine with 2.5-inch aluminized tubing. A Vortech blow-off valve relieves the intake tract of positive pressure while a 38mm Tial wastegate regulates said pressure to a conservative 7psi.
To ensure healthy air/fuel ratios, a 255-lph Walbro fuel pump was added to the mix as was a Vortech boost dependent fuel pressure regulator. A Rev Hard oil filter relocation kit teamed with a B&M oil cooler makes certain the turbo will live a long life.
After spinning the GT30's exhaust side, gases travel through a Rev Hard downpipe and out an 80mm RSR muffler.
Engine cooling is improved upon with an Evasive Motorsports carbon-fiber cooling plate.
To make sure the F20C1's 283 hp is most effectively applied, the factory issued differential was swapped for a Spoon Sports 1.5-way limited-slip differential. Also on call is an ACT twin disc clutch.
Rims & Rubber
The factory 16's were traded in favor of Volk Racing CE28Ns. The 17-pound rims measure in at 18x7.5 in the front and 18x8.5 in the rear with offsets of +50 and +47 respectively. Bridgestone Potenza S-03 rubber sized at 225/40-18 up front and 255/35-18 in the rear enshroud the Volks.
Stance
Perez enhanced the AP1's handling characteristics considerably and it all begins with a set of Tein RA coil-overs. With ride height adjusted, Perez moved on to address chassis stiffness with the addition of a Cusco front strut tower brace and six-point roll cage. Also from Cusco are the company's front and rear lower arm bars which further guard against chassis flex.
Resistance
Braking is improved with the help of Power Slot slotted rotors and Earls steel braided lines combined with an otherwise stock brake system.
Body
Outside: Perez steered clear of flashy multi-colored paint schemes and instead opted for a fresh coat of the S2000's original Berlina Black. Nick at GTS Autobody in Van Nuys, Calif. sprayed the AP1 and added an Amuse front spoiler and C-West rear bumper.
Inside: Inside, Perez' S2000 is fitted with Bride Ergo 1 seats and Takata harnesses. A series of Autometer gauges including boost and oil pressure and an air/fuel meter monitor the F20C1's vitals.
Ice
Perez turned to David Lee of 6 Auto Sound in Los Angeles for all things car audio. The factory sound system was completely scrapped with its replacement based upon an Eclipse AVN5435 navigation monitor and Eclipse SIR-ECL 1 satellite tuner. Perez also added a 5-channel, 1300-watt amp, 6.5-inch speakers and a 15-inch subwoofer, all from Memphis Car Audio. The package is rounded off with two, 5.8-inch Sharp LCD monitors. Power is all but ensured with the help of three Lightning Audio Strike capacitors. To make sure this S2000 doesn't get jacked, Perez relies on a Python 671XP two-way security system.
