Bolts & Washers
Kevin Bach's 1993 Honda Civic
Propulsion
Bach and Tran choose the B18C1 engine for its availability of parts and its ease to work on. The aluminum block's bore was enlarged 0.25mm and fitted with Civic Type-R pistons tied to OEM rods via ARP bolts. The balanced bottom end is mated to an Integra Type-R cylinder head and is good for a 12.7:1 compression ratio. Toda products outfit the cylinder head, including the company's Spec-B camshafts, valves springs, retainers and adjustable camshaft timing gears. All this rides on top of a set of Supertech flat-face valves.
Externally, the GSR engine is served with an ARC Intake Chamber, mated to a K&N air filter. A DC Sports 4-1 ceramic-coated header sends exhaust gases through a Vision test pipe and ultimately through an OEM Civic muffler.
An Integra Type-R fuel pump teams up with RC Engineering 310cc/min fuel injectors, working in conjunction with a reprogrammed P30 ECU. NGK Iridium plugs, Spoon Sports spark plug wires and an MSD 6AL ignition provide spark.
The GSR gearbox was traded in favor of an Integra Type-R tranny with a 4.7:1 final drive ratio. Bach used the Type-R limited-slip differential and flywheel, swapping over to an Action six-puck, sprung-hub clutch to handle the additional power.
The engine and transaxle are held to the frame with the help of OEM engine mounts, strengthened with Energy Suspension inserts.
Rims & Rubber
This EG turns heads with 16-inch Mugen MF-10 wheels wrapped in 215/45-16 Falken Azenis. The Mugens feature a +50mm offset and the traditional Integra Type-R 5x114.3 bolt pattern.
Resistance
Stock Integra-Type R rotors team up with Spoon Sports four-pot calipers and Axxis brake pads. Bach also swapped in the larger Integra Type-R master cylinder and proportioning valve.
Stance
Bach used a combination of EG and Integra Type-R suspension and brake components to achieve its five-lug merit. Tein HA coilovers, designed for an EK but modified for the EG, drop the hatch and improve its handling prowess. Function 7 rear-lower control arms replace the stockers, both dropping some weight and increasing rigidity. Bach also added front and rear anti-roll bars from an Integra Type-R and Comptech, respectively. An Integra Type-R lower tie bar and Benen strut-tower brace stiffen up the front half of the hatchback.
Fashion
Inside: Bach sourced many interior components for the shell from Civic number two, and sought the aftermarket and JDM sources for the rest. Carbon Kevlar bucket seats reside up front, while the rears have been yanked in a weight-saving effort. A Momo Corse steering wheel and nearly a dozen JDM accessories were installed next. Bach then fitted some JDM paraphernalia to the Civic's interior, including an armrest, audio console, climate control and clock. He also found and installed a JDM Integra Type-R shift knob, complete with its accompanying red-stitched boot.
Outside: Karry's Collision Center doused the EG with NSX Long Beach Blue Pearl paint. Bach also added a front lip and side skirts from Wings West, as well as a VIS carbon fiber hood, trunk, duckbill and mirrors. JDM headlights, fog lights and taillights round out the body.
