Bolts & WashersGarage Five/Rod Mase's1993 Acura Integra GS-RPropulsionThe engine base is a debored B20 shortblock. For extra strength and room for repair, the AEBS ductile iron sleeves are left to Integra specs and house 81mm Wiseco pistons for a 9.0:1 compression ratio. Eagle connecting rods fasten to an OEM lightened crankshaft via ARP rod bolts. For added security, a Pro Drive oil pump gear replaces the OEM powdered metal piece. All internals are high-speed balanced thanks to High Performance Engines of Burnaby, British Columbia. Garage Five Performance gets credit for the build.
The non-VTEC top end is ditched in favor of B16A2 VTEC technology. The DOHC Civic Si noggin benefits from mild porting/polishing and Skunk2 stainless-steel valves. Complementing the lighter valves are more resilient Skunk2 valve springs and lightweight titanium retainers. Skunk2 adjustable camshaft gears dictate the higher lift/longer duration Integra Type-R camshafts.
Air enters through an S&B filter where it meets a Turbonetics T3-T04E ball-bearing turbo. The compressed air travels through a series of chrome-plated intercooler pipes and finally chills inside a Spearco front-mount intercooler. The intercooler directs the charge air through more tubing, a Holley 68mm throttle body and into a polished JG Edelbrock intake manifold.
Spent gases release through a Rev Hard stainless-steel equal-length exhaust manifold and custom 3-inch downpipe/A'PEXi N1muffler combo. An HKS 40mm external wastegate regulates positive pressure while the company's Type II blow-off valve relieves excess pressure between clutch jabs.
Ensuring that the engine isn't blown to smithereens is a comprehensive fuel/spark program developed for the B series. At the heart is a Hondata S200 controlling a set of RC Engineering 830cc/min injectors. A Walbro fuel pump and upgraded -8 and -6 stainless-steel fuel lines from Aeroquip further ensure the goal is accomplished. Connecting to the STR fuel rail is an Aeromotive adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Satisfying spark demands are upgraded NGK plugs and wires, and MSD components consisting of an SCI box, Blaster SS coil and distributor cap.
The S1 gearbox remains intact save for a Quaife limited slip differential upgrade. A lightened Toda chrome-moly flywheel mates to an ACT six-puck clutch, ensuring adequate power transfer. To ward off any broken axles, a pair of Driveshaft Shop Stage Five units replace the wimpy OEM issue.
RIMS & RubberThe Integra rolls on 17x7-inch Volk Racing GT-P rims wrapped in 205/50-17 Toyo RA-1s.
StanceH&R coil-overs cover all four points aided by a Skunk2 camber kit. A Skunk2 front strut tower brace eliminates chassis flex while Suspension Techniques anti-roll bars do their part with body roll. The custom roll cage furthers chassis stiffness and was added to comply with track rules.
ResistanceCross-drilled rotors sized to Integra Type-R specs receive assistance from Spoon Sports calipers and Endless CCX pads. Earl's stainless-steel brake lines replace the OEM rubber. Garage Five ditched the ABS system for weight savings and swapped over non-ABS components, including the proportioning valve and master cylinder.
