Mugen GemsAt one point in Honda enthusiast history, the rarest and most sought-after wheels on the planet were produced by Mugen. As the JDM scene grew, these wheels became less rare but remained just as popular. Mugen has made many different wheels, with some more memorable than others. Some were very limited in production-for reasons unknown-and those are the most coveted.
If you want your car to stand out, you need the rarest of the rare. Sometimes only minor differences make a wheel desirable, such as size, color, or lug pattern. With help from Arn Reyes of abunairacing.com, we compiled a list of the five most revered Mugen wheels.
M7: This is the most sought-after wheel Mugen has ever made. Its simple, timeless design will never go out of style. The one to look for is 15-inch or 16-inch 4x100 and 16-inch or 17-inch in 5x114.3.
RNR (white): Black RNRs are a dime a dozen. You've probably also seen the Rota or Tenzo-R RNR look-alikes. RNRs in black are probably one of the easiest Mugen wheels to find. The RNRs that the wheel whores lust after are white in color.
16-inch MR5: MR5s are yet another Mugen wheel that tend to be easy to find. They are readily available in 15-inch trim. They even made a rare anniversary edition that was a metallic turquoise in color. Even more rare than the special editions are the limited production 16-inch version.
NR10R: Run-of-the-mill NR10s are becoming harder to find now, but the race-ready NR10Rs are far more difficult to get your hands on. These wheels are basically NR10s with extra meat taken off to reduce weight.
15-inch CF48: In 14-inch trim, CF48s are relatively easy to come by. In the '80s you could buy them as a dealer option on your brand-new EA chassis Civic or first-generation CRX. The ones that are hardest to obtain are the JDM-only 15-inch versions.
