We all know that it is imperative that we change our oil and oil filter on a regular basis to prevent engine damage from small metal particles floating around the bottom end. What you might not know is that your average oil filter only picks up particles larger than 15 microns. Smaller particles can be even more damaging to your motor then large ones if they exist in quantity and for extended periods of time. Filtro Max is a magnetic cap ($30) that's designed to stick to the end of an oil filter. The unit produces a magnetic field powerful enough to trap ferrous particles as small as one micron. To put it in perspective, that is about the size of a red blood cell.
