This year marks the fourth year that Javier Ortega’s Honda Day has taken over Atco Raceway, New Jersey, and the massive turnout is really no surprise. That is, unless you look back to the very first Honda Day that took place on the nation’s busiest racetrack during a cold and unforgiving 2008. Ortega remembers, “Back then it was a one-day event, and the weather during that first year was not very kind to us. We were rained out three times, and when we finally were able to complete the event, it was November 20th of 2008. It was about 28 degrees, and I couldn’t even feel my fingers that day—lol!” Braving the frigid temperatures didn’t seem to be much of an issue as the event still managed to pull in over 4,000 visitors—but times have changed. The man—Javier Ortega (organizer) Now designed as a two-day event, this year Honda Day attracted over 20,000 visitors throughout the weekend. Monumental numbers that have pushed the limits of the venue and surrounding streets and beg the question, how much bigger can this event actually get? If you ask the attendees who make the trip from local streets, surrounding states, across the entire country and beyond (Canada, Puerto Rico, etc.), the sky’s the limit. “Your Honda can’t do…oh wait!” Team 4piston Racing’s Insight Jake Gavio’s F2K-powered all-motor menace Drag Cartel—flirting with the 8-second all-motor mark Do work!
